Who Do You Trust

Aloha Dearest Family,

With so much TV coverage of the upcoming presidential election and trying to decide who would be the best candidate, you must first ask yourself this one question –“Who do you trust?”  The answer to this question could mean a life of turmoil and trouble, or a life of continual blessing. So choose wisely. But are we really talking about political candidates?

So what is trust? Trust is simply having confidence in something or someone you consider solid and sure. Many put their confidence and trust in their wealth, their job, in their own strength, their own intellect or in a certain political leader. In the Old Testament the leaders of a city would put their trust in the strong walls surrounding the city. This kind of thinking was sound until Joshua brought down the walls of Jericho. Philistine soldiers put their trust in a massive soldier, a giant, named Goliath, until a shepherd boy took him down with just a sling and a stone. What does this teach us? Be careful in what you put your trust in. Not everything is as sure it appears.

God tells us in His Word very plainly who to trust and who NOT to trust.
“It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.”  (Psalms 118:8, 9)
Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.” (Psalms 146:3)
The ”princes” in the above verses refer to political leaders. God tells us not to put our trust in them. Furthermore, God tells us that there is NO HELP in them. No matter what the news is telling us, we should not look to any man for the answers.
Trust ye in the LORD forever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.” (Isaiah 26:4)
The words “everlasting strength” in the Hebrew language is literally “the Rock of Ages”. Why would we want to put our trust in fallible man when we could trust in the Rock of All Ages, Almighty God.
In Jeremiah 17, God gives us the best analogy on trust in the entire Bible.
Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh (mankind) his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord.”
If we turn our hearts away from God and decide to trust in man, God says we are cursed. Wow! This is pretty strong language. God then gives us a very descriptive example,
For he (the one that trusts in man) shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.”
The “heath” is a desert plant. The one that trusts in mankind is like a scrawny desert plant in a desolate land, trying to eke out any drop of moisture possible, just to survive. Even when the good comes, he won’t even notice it. This sounds like a pretty miserable existence. But this is real-life for many people. For so many people, life is down-right hard. Maybe the reason is that they are putting their trust in the wrong things (or people). But God also tells us about the man who puts his trust in Him,
Blessed is the man that trusts in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he will be like a tree planted by the water, That extends its roots by a stream And will not fear when the heat comes; But its leaves will be green, And it will not be anxious in a year of drought Nor cease to yield fruit.”
What a promise!  Put a picture in your mind of this and really see the richness of a loving Father.

The one that puts his trust in the Lord, will be like a tree planted by the water - Our needs will continually be supplied.
..And will not fear when the heat comes...when the heat of life comes the man who trusts in God is not anxious in any way.
..But its leaves will be green... Even when events in life occur he will still show no signs of stress.
..And it will not be anxious in a year of drought … This person does not need to fear, even when others are experiencing long-time trouble and distress. Even at a time of economic disaster, he will thrive.
..Nor cease to yield fruit … The man who trusts in God will ALWAYS prosper – no matter what!

God makes it very clear. If we trust in man – we will be cursed.  If we place our trust in Him – we will be BLESSED beyond measure!  God promised this to us and we would be foolish and lacking to disregard this promise.

                                                                                                                Love Always, Ray
